8 Texas Hill Country Wineries Near Wimberley You Must Try!
Texas Hill Country Wineries Near Wimberley
There is nothing sweeter than spending an idyllic day in Texas Hill Country enjoying the weather, the scenery, the fabulous fare and tasting the wines. Does it get any better? I truly don’t think so! Here are a few great picks to help you enjoy the best of nature and its offerings!
Wimberley Valley Winery
To begin, check out the Wimberley Valley Winery. This winery is located off the beaten path on Lone Man Mountain Road, and as a result, rewards you with pure serenity! Wimberley Valley Winery has a large yard with a spacious, multi-level deck in addition to a couples swing, all under a beautiful canopy of oaks.
Wimberley Valley Winery offers an extensive menu of wines for tasting or purchase and is also family friendly with an outdoor tabletop Jenga and bean bag toss. The neighboring properties have ponies, goats, and longhorn, and they often come up to the fence line to the delight of children (and adults). I recommend sampling their Sangiovese – and on a hot day, their chilled Sangria or wine slushie can’t be beat!
Bella Vista Olive Ranch and Winery
Tucked away on Mt. Sharp Road is another Wimberley secret, Bella Vista Ranch. This beautiful ranch is not only home to its olive grove, but also Bella Vista Cellars – which means you can enjoy infused olive oils AND wine tasting! My Italian heritage rejoices every time I visit this lovely property!
Bella Vista Ranch offers guided tours of their olive grove on Saturdays at 1:00 pm and Sundays at noon. In addition to their wine tasting, I highly recommend sampling their garlic infused olive oil and bringing a bottle home. The products here make beautiful gifts for those back home!
Driftwood Estate Winery
Let’s face it, wine and sunsets pair perfectly together. If that’s what you had in mind, look no further than Driftwood Estate Winery! This winery is situated at the top of a bluff on Elder Hill Road and offers a wide open view of hill country in addition to a broad selection of wines to taste.
They often have food trucks on the weekend, but their schedule varies so you might want to call ahead to check their hours and availability for sunset viewing...
Duchman Family Winery
It’s often said that the Texas Hill Country landscape is similar to that of Tuscany, and you’ll certainly experience this at the Duchman Family Winery. Previously featured on HGTV as one of the 20 most picturesque wineries in the US, they offer an array of wines made exclusively from Texas grapes.
Take your time walking around their beautiful estate. Enjoy tasting their Montepulciano, their Aglianico, and their Vermentino, among others. Take a bottle outside to their grounds to appreciate this beautiful feel of Tuscany in the Texas Hill Country!

Fall Creek Vineyard
Located just across the street from The Salt Lick on FM 1826 is Fall Creek Vineyard. This new addition to Driftwood offers a nice selection of wines with a fabulous, multi-tiered patio with a waterfall and abundant seating for all to enjoy! They also offer a “Wine Bites” menu (think chocolates, a cheese plate, fresh baguette with pate, or their grilled cheese with havarti, cheddar and onion).
Try their flagship wine, the Meritus, which is a collector’s piece and a full-bodied red, or their Cabernet-Sauvignon-Sangiovese-Merlot, which is a full-bodied, super tuscan wine with a slightly smoky taste from grapes grown at The Salt Lick.
30 Minutes to 1 Hour Away
Luckily, Wimberley is just a short drive from many other Texas Hill Country wineries. Enjoy a drive through the hill country to Stonewall and Fredericksburg to explore several more choices. If you can’t find a designated driver for your trip, you can book a wine tour with Taste of the Hills located in Wimberley.
Becker Vineyards in Stonewall will entice any wine AND history lover with its elaborate estate and 46 acre vineyard! Bring a picnic lunch, and be sure to stop in The Lavender Haus, which is a replica of a barn from Lyndon B. Johnson’s settlement. Wine tasting is available and there is also “The Verandah”, with its outdoor bar. This is a beautiful estate. Their Becker Viognier and Tempranillo are two favorites!
Pedernales Cellars is also located in Stonewall and shares its popularity for Tempranillo and Viognier wines. They offer 145 picturesque acres of oak-shaded land with a breathtaking view of the Pedernales River Valley. Pedernales Cellars follows environmentally sustainable practices, and visitors often enjoy touring their geothermal barrel cellar before enjoying the grounds!
Torre Di Pietra Vineyards
Fredericksburg makes a beautiful day trip from Wimberley, and there are plenty of Texas Hill Country Wineries here to choose from. Torre Di Pietra Vineyards should be on your list, especially in the spring when their wildflowers and roses are in bloom.
They usually have live music and gourmet food trucks with foods for purchase most weekends. They also sell snacks for purchase such as cheese baskets and artisan breads in the Torre di Pietra Picnic Market.
This place was designated as one of the top 10 most beautiful wineries in Texas in 2014, so come explore the grounds, relax, browse their gift shop, and taste their award winning wines!
So many wineries, so little time! It’s worth mentioning that most of these wineries have the facilities for private parties and are the perfect elegant venue for an unforgettably romantic, hill country wedding (or engagement proposal!). Check their website or inquire in person for venue information.
