If you’re looking for things to do in Wimberley, the EmilyAnn Theatre and Gardens should be at the top of your list! This 12-acre wonderland offers something for every family member during all seasons.
Created in 1998 as a way to celebrate the life of Emily Ann Rolling, it is home to Shakespeare Under the Stars, a program she held dear to her heart.
The mission of the EmilyAnn Theatre is to “To reinvest in the dignity of the human,” and you will see this at the core of everything that happens here.
The EmilyAnn Theatre and Gardens offers ongoing performances that are suitable for a date night, in addition to children’s shows.
Some of their upcoming productions include Shrek-The Musical, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Measure for Measure and White Christmas.
The children’s theatre productions include Aladdin, Cinderella and Jack & The Beanstalk. The children’s shows are held in the indoor studio theatre with intimate seating, so be sure to reserve your tickets in advance.
Their summer Shakespeare Under the Stars production is held on their outdoor amphitheater stage under the stars, and is not to be missed! Students age 12 through 18 work on these productions at the acclaimed summer camp each year and perform the play nightly beginning in August.
Read about the summer camp in AustinFusion Magazine.
EmilyAnn Theatre offers performances throughout the entire year both on the outdoor main stage and the indoor intimate studio. Indoor performances often sell out. Check the website for dates and show times.

EmilyAnn is perfect for a romantic afternoon for two or a family outing and they welcome the public to their grounds daily from dawn to dusk.
A walk in their gardens is like a magical wonderland to little ones as they discover the life-sized chess board and castle, and explore the interactive musical garden and dinosaur sculptures.
For couples and nature lovers, stroll through the beautiful grounds and enjoy a picnic under the oak trees, watch birds and butterflies, listen to the flowing waters of the multiple fountain areas or simply sit in silence with your sweetheart at the 200-year-old Betrothal Tree.
Atop the hill on the grounds of EmilyAnn Theatre and Gardens is the Veterans Memorial and a Children’s Memorial Plaza.
This is a beautiful area dedicated to remembering those who have served and those who were lost way too soon. During the opening ceremony of the Butterfly Festival each year, a butterfly is released for each name represented on the Children’s Memorial.
Each Spring, The EmilyAnn hosts their Butterfly Festival. This popular event draws nature lovers to Wimberley to delight in the release of thousands of butterflies!
Releases are held throughout the day and the event also includes live music, arts and crafts, pirate and princess tents, and a host of fun things for children and the child at heart to do!
The event is held on the third Saturday in April from 9am – 5pm with butterfly releases happening every 30 minutes.
You can buy slices of watermelon and cantaloupe for $1.00 a piece and “catch” as many butterflies as you want. They also sell nets and viewing cases so the kids can take a butterfly home and release it in your own yard.
All proceeds for the Butterfly Festival go toward maintaining the theatre and gardens.
After Thanksgiving the EmilyAnn Theatre and Gardens opens their Christmas Trail of Lights. This is another popular event that draws a crowd. Each year the grounds are transformed into a magical and festive holiday wonderland by lighted displays from Wimberley area businesses and organizations.
In addition to enjoying the lighted displays, families can gather around the yule log and sip hot cocoa while they roast marshmallows or hot dogs. Each night Santa or Mrs. Claus is there to welcome guests. Entertainment includes performances each night from local churches, civic groups, drama clubs and Wimberley school students.
The Trail of Lights is by donation only with a minimal charge for food and hot cocoa. It is open every evening from 6pm till 9pm from the night after Thanksgiving until December 30th.
This is a very special holiday event your family will treasure for years! Read more about it in FreeFuninAustin.com.
