Movies Under the Stars – at the Corral Theater Wimberley

Corral Theater Wimberley – First Run Movies All Summer Long

When the summer sun goes down in our little town on a weekend, it can only mean one thing:  it’s time to head to the Corral!

This outdoor movie theater  in Wimberley is such a treasured  landmark that when it was in danger of shutting down, local residents and businesses pulled together to save it.  The community was able to raise the funds  (more than $50,000) that were desperately needed to make the transition to new digital technology.

The only way to describe the Corral is to say that it just possesses a certain charm that is best experienced in person.

One step “inside” the Corral, and you’ll understand why there was such passion to preserve it.  Sitting under the beautiful hill country sky, I find it difficult to focus directly on the movie screen at times.  The stars are plentiful, and there is lots of nature with the occasional firefly stopping by and the symphony of cicadas.  Truth be told, I find myself admiring the nature more than the movie!  But please don’t tell anyone…that’s my little secret!

The Corral Theater Wimberley has been a treasured landmark since 1948, and is the only movie theater of its kind. Showtimes typically run every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evening during the summer.  Movies start at dusk, so it’s best to arrive before the sun sets so you can select your seat – or better yet, bring your own lawn chairs.  Concessions are available at a modest price and typically include popcorn, beverages, and a selection of candy bars.  The Corral Theater is so famous it’s been featured in the New York Times!

The only way to describe the Corral is to say that it just possesses a certain charm that is best experienced in person.  You can find this hidden Wimberley gem by turning left off of Ranch Road 12 from the square onto 3237, and then turning right a short way down onto Flite Acres.  Check our event page for their upcoming showtimes.

Oh!  While you’re there, please don’t judge the gal looking up at the stars!   ~ CB
